Year 5/6 Girls Football - Two Cup Finals in a Week!
Our Year 5/6 girl’s team didn’t just have one final this week but two! An incredible achievement in itself!
On Tuesday 23rd May, the Year 5/6 Girls Football Team played their first cup final of the season - the ERPSSA Cup against Holy Family at Abbey Football Club. We started brightly with a goal within the first 5 minutes, but the tough team from Holy Family soon equalised and we struggled against their strength in midfield. We started the 2nd half 2-1 down and fought hard but conceded another goal before making it 3-2 with 3 minutes left. Unfortunately, time ran out on us and the girls ended up with silver medals but huge congratulations for a gutsy and impressive performance.
With renewed focus, we travelled to Dorking Wanderers FC on Thursday 25th May for the Surrey County Cup final against Cheam Park Farm. The girls played brilliantly and we scored 2 goals in the first half, one from a short corner and one direct from a free kick from outside the area. To their credit, the girls maintained focus through a tough 2nd half, but always had the upper hand and scored another goal just before the final whistle and we became Surrey County Champions! Well done to the whole squad, but particularly Charlotte, Izzy, Jess H, Olivia, Kati, Marissa, Daisy, Catherine and captain Eva.
We go again after half term in our final game in the League Final.
